Kingstown Web Studio
Websites built to help customers decide
Kingstown Web Studio designs websites for trades and service businesses across the UK, with a simple goal: helping customers understand what you do, trust you, and choose you.
When people compare options online - often quickly, often on a phone - your website needs to support that decision. That’s the work I focus on.

The sections below explain how customers make decisions, what I prioritise when building a site, and how that shapes the way I work.

How customers make decisions when choosing a service business
Most customers don’t contact the first business they find.
They search, scan, compare, and quietly narrow their options. Often on a phone. Often with limited time. What they’re looking for isn’t perfection - it’s reassurance that they’ve found someone credible, relevant, and easy to deal with.
By the time a customer gets in touch, they’ve usually already ruled several businesses out.
A website doesn’t need to say everything. It needs to say the right things, early enough, to stay in consideration.
What I prioritise when building a site
The focus of the work isn’t on adding more content.
It’s on deciding what a customer needs to see in order to move forward - and shaping the site around that.
That usually comes down to three things:
-
What answers the initial “Is this for me?” question
-
What provides enough reassurance to keep them engaged
-
What removes hesitation at the point of getting in touch
When those priorities are clear, the website starts doing practical work rather than just presenting information.
How that translates into the way I work
This way of thinking is why clarity and scope matter so much in my process.
When the purpose of the site is clear, it’s easier to define what’s needed - and just as importantly, what isn’t. Decisions happen faster, projects stay focused, and the end result is more effective because everything is working towards the same outcome.
That’s why services at Kingstown Web Studio are clearly defined from the start. You can see what’s included, what each option is for, and when it makes sense to use it - so the work stays aligned with what will actually help your business move forward.
Working directly with me
When you work with Kingstown Web Studio, you work with me throughout.
There’s no handover between stages and no layers between conversations and decisions. That consistency keeps things efficient and avoids the gaps that often appear when work is passed around.
Clients often describe the experience as having someone alongside them who understands the wider picture and keeps things moving in a sensible, steady way.
Experience that carries across industries

I’ve spent over 30 years working in and around marketing, websites, and customer decision-making.
That’s included building brands, shaping customer journeys, designing systems, and working with businesses at very different stages - from one-person operations to established teams.
The value isn’t in job titles or sectors. It’s in understanding patterns: what people pay attention to, what reassures them,
and what helps them decide - especially when they’re comparing options quickly.
That understanding informs every recommendation I make.
Design that fits the business
I enjoy colour, contrast, and visual energy - but that isn’t something I impose.
Your website should feel like your business.
Some brands need confidence and boldness. Others benefit from calm and simplicity. Most sit somewhere in between. My role is to translate what you do into a visual and structural style that feels natural for your customers.
The measure of success isn’t how striking a design looks in isolation, but how comfortable it feels for the people using it.

A considered approach to AEO and AI
I use modern tools, including AI, where they meaningfully support the work.
They help with efficiency, consistency, and structuring information in ways that search engines and answer-based systems can interpret more easily. This supports Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) - making it clearer what a business offers and who it’s for.
Judgement, priorities, and decisions remain human-led. Tools assist the process; they don’t replace it.
Is this the right fit?
Kingstown Web Studio is usually a good fit for businesses that:
-
Offer a trade or service
-
Want their website to support real customer decisions
-
Value clear options and direct communication
-
Prefer working with the person responsible for the work
It may not be the best fit if you’re looking for constant experimentation, large multi-layered teams, or the lowest possible price.
That balance matters. The aim is for the work to feel right on both sides.

Some Moments That Mattered
Over the years, I’ve helped businesses make practical, lasting improvements by strengthening their foundations:
Helped a business-to-consumer hobby brand build their online presence from scratch.
Their email campaigns now achieve 58%+ open rates (industry average: around 22%).
Worked with a local trade business to redesign their counter service and customer journey, resulting in over 200% growth in drop-in sales.
Supported a small eCommerce business moving onto Amazon, with optimised product listings that elevated their overall brand presence and performance.
